Position We are currently looking for an experienced accountant to take over the role of Controller. This full-time, in-office position is dynamic and supports the accounting and financial functions for all three of our office locations. As a senior position within the firm, you will have excellent long-term opportunities and can be based out of either our Langley or Chilliwack locations. Our ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of progressive experience, preferably within a BC law firm setting. You will possess strong knowledge of and experience with the BC Law Society trust rules, thrive on challenging work, be self‐motivated with sound judgement, display a sound work ethic, and possess excellent interpersonal skills. Key Responsibilities:
  • Preparing monthly financial statements
  • Reconciling monthly trust and general bank accounts
  • Preparing month-end GL account reconciliations and journal entries
  • Posting and processing financial functions
  • Overseeing accounts receivable, accounts payable, and trust accounting
  • Preparing PST, GST, EHT, WorkSafe BC, and TAF returns
  • Overseeing the monthly billing processes and related documents
  • Preparing the annual Law Society of BC Trust Report and working with external accountants on year-end reporting
  • Ensuring compliance with Law Society trust rules
  • Liaising with external service providers, auditors, banks, and other professionals
  • Responding to internal firm requests and inquiries, running reports, processing expense claims, and resolving issues
  • Supporting the management team on financial reporting and budgeting
  • Training firm members on accounting policies, processes, and procedures
Qualifications
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA), preferred
  • 3+ years of progressive experience, ideally in a BC law firm setting
  • Strong knowledge and experience with BC Law Society trust rules
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and manage time efficiently
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism
  • Strong computer skills (MS 365, record keeping and document management)
