Job Description

Job title: Accountant Reporting to: Executive Director
PURPOSE
The Accountant ensures the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements and reports for a small not-for-profit organization. This role is currently offered on a part-time, contract basis of approximately 15-20 hours per week. The Accountant will also assist with contract management.
Duties and responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintaining QuickBooks online system of Accounting
  • Record Journal entries as required
  • Maintain Trial Balance and General Ledger
  • Assist in creating Best Practices for Financial Procedures including strict adherence to accounting policies and procedures
  • Accounts Receivables duties including recording cash receipts; depositing donations; collecting overdue Accounts Receivable
  • Accounts Payable duties including proper coding and recording of invoices and issuance of payments.
  • Timely and accurate calculation and remittance of government taxes
  • Payroll duties including the calculation; reconciliation and e-transfer of payroll files, government remittances and pension contributions
  • General Ledger duties including maintenance of prepaids; amortization calculations; bank reconciliation duties
  • Assist with creation of annual budget and ongoing reconciliation and maintenance thereon
  • Month-end reporting duties including preparation of Financial Statement package for Executive Director and Board of Directors
  • Prepare and assist for annual audit by third party accounting firm
  • Other financial and accounting reports as may be reasonably required and requested
Skills required:
  • Two to three years of experience in a similar accounting role
  • Excellent working knowledge of QuickBooks online
  • Previous experience working with a not-for-profit or charity an asset
  • Very organized, high degree of accuracy and great attention to detail
  • Ability to complete tasks from start to finish with little supervision
  • Solid critical thinking skills and ability to navigate change
  • Ability to work as a team player to positively support non-financial team members with their budget and/or program goals
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office environment, specifically Excel; Teams
  • Good communication skills, written and oral in English
Education: Diploma or Degree specializing in Accounting or Finance
Hours: 10 days per month plus additional days for month and year end audit at 7.5 hours per day
Environment: Remote work
Salary and Benefits: $30 - 35/hr is commensurate on experience and education level. Our charity offers excellent health and dental benefits to full and part time staff.
